1.World Milk Day -1ST JUNE

Established by the UN's Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) in 2001, this day recognizes the importance of milk as a global food

India currently reigns as the world's largest milk producer, accounting for nearly 24-25% of global output with production figures exceeding 240 million tonnes.

The foundation for this monumental achievement was laid by the White Revolution (Operation Flood).

Key milestones and facts of this transformation include:

Launch of Operation Flood: Initiated in 1970 by the National Dairy Development Board (NDDB) under the leadership of Dr. Verghese Kurien.

The Cooperative Model: It was modeled on the success of the Kaira District Co-operative Milk Producers' Union (Amul) in Gujarat

National Milk Grid: Created to connect rural milk producers directly with consumers in over 700 towns and cities, eliminating exploitative middlemen

Dr. Verghese Kurien waswidely renowned as the Father of the Milk Revolution

National Milk Day: India observes National Milk Day every year on November 26 to commemoratehis birth Anniversary

2. Puducherry secured two new Special Economic Zones (SEZs)

One of the zones, an IT/ITES SEZ being developed by Oulgaret Municipality at Thattanchavady village in Oulgaret Taluk, will be the first SEZ in India to be developed by an Urban Local Body, namely a Municipality.

The SEZ will come across an area of 8.623 hectare with a proposed investment of Rs 725 crore and is expected to create as many as 3,500 direct and indirect jobs.

The second zone, a Multi-Sector SEZ, will be built by Pondicherry Industrial Promotion Development and Investment Corporation at Karasur village in Villianur Taluk.

The two zones collectively represent a combined investment of nearly Rs 1,975 crore and are projected to generate approximately 8,500 jobs.

Special Economic Zones

Asia’s first Export Processing Zone (EPZ) was set up in Kandla in 1965, followed by establishment of seven more EPZs in the country.

Special Economic Zone (SEZ) is a designated duty-free enclave to be treated as a territory outside the customs territory of India for the purpose of authorised operations.

Special Economic Zones (SEZs) Policy was announced in April 2000 wherein various new features were incorporated.

All the eight pre-existing EPZs located at Kandla and Surat (Gujarat), Santa Cruz (Maharashtra), Cochin (Kerala), Chennai (Tamil Nadu), Visakhapatnam (Andhra Pradesh), Falta (West Bengal) and Noida (Uttar Pradesh) were converted into Special Economic Zones.

The Special Economic Zones Act, 2005, was passed by Parliament in May 2005 and received Presidential assent on June 23, 2005.

The SEZ Act, 2005, supported by SEZ Rules, came into effect on February 10, 2006.

3. The Khet Bachao Abhiyan (Save the Farm Campaign)

This campaign is a nationwide initiative launched by the Indian government aimed at promoting balanced fertiliser use, improving soil health, and encouraging sustainable agricultural practices.

Key Details of the CampaignTimeline:

The month-long intensive campaign runs from June 1 to June 30.Leadership: Initiated under the guidance of Prime Minister, the campaign was formally launched by Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan from Ramsiya village in Raisen district, Madhya Pradesh.

Core Objective: To drastically minimize the reckless and excessive use of chemical fertilisers (especially urea) that degrades soil fertility, and to promote soil test-based nutrient management

Key practices promoted:

Green manuring (in-situ ploughing of leguminous crops to enrich soil).

Bio-fertilizers (microorganism-based inputs such as Rhizobium, Azotobacter, PSB).

Organic nutrient sources (compost, vermicompost, FYM).

Soil-test-based fertilizer recommendations.

Broader policy connections:

Soil Health Card scheme (2015) for soil testing.

PM-PRANAM (PM Programme for Restoration, Awareness, Generation, Nourishment and Amelioration of Mother Earth), launched 2023, incentivising states to reduce chemical fertilizer use.

Dalhan Aatmanirbharta Mission (October 2025) for pulse self-sufficiency, which supports nitrogen-fixing crops.

4. AI-enabled Voice Chatbot'Samadhan Didi'

The Ministry of Personnel launched 'Samadhan Didi', an AI-enabled voice chatbot on the CPGRAMS platform.

Developed by DARPG in collaboration with Bhashini, it allows citizens to lodge grievances verbally in their native language.

The AI automatically classifies the issue and routes it to the correct department.

Key Features & Highlights:

Language Support: Fully supports all 22 scheduled Indian languages, with ongoing efforts to add indigenous and regional dialects like Bhojpuri, Garo, Khasi, Mizo, and Bodhi.

Voice-First Design: Citizens can speak their grievances in plain, everyday language without needing to know the specific Ministry, Department, or category.

CPGRAMS

Centralised Public Grievance Redress and Monitoring System is a centralised system that allows anyone to file complaints against any department of the Central or State Government of India
