Headquartered in Monaco, it establishes global standards for hydrography, ensures uniformity in nautical charts, and supports maritime safety and the Blue Economy.

The 12th edition of the International Day of Yoga is being observed on 21stJune 2026, with Kolkata hosting the main national celebration.

This year's theme, 'Yoga for Healthy Ageing'

United Nations proclaimed 21 June as the International Day of Yoga in 2014.

The proposal, introduced by Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi at the 69th session of the UN, was supported by 175 member states.

The first observance was held on 21st June 2015.Yoga was inscribed on UNESCO's Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity in 2016.

A Civilisational Legacy: History of Yoga

Yoga is among the world's oldest knowledge traditions, with roots tracing back to the Indus-Saraswati Civilisation (c. 2700 BCE). The word 'yoga' derives from Sanskrit, meaning to join or to unite — symbolising the union of body and consciousness

References to Yogic practices are found across the Vedas, Upanishads, Buddhist and Jain traditions, as well as the Mahabharata and Ramayana.

The Yogic tradition was systematised by Maharishi Patanjali through the Yoga Sutras.

4India Elected FATF Vice President For First Time, Vivek Aggarwal To Assume Office

India has been elected to the vice presidency of the Financial Action Task Force (FATF) for the first time, marking a significant milestone in the country's role in the global fight against money laundering and terrorist financing.

Vivek Aggarwal, a 1994-batch Indian Administrative Service officer of the Madhya Pradesh cadre and currently Secretary in the Ministry of Culture, will serve as FATF Vice President from July 2026 to June 2027.

Established in 1989 as a G7 initiative and headquartered in Paris, the FATF is the global standard-setting body for combating money laundering, terrorist financing and other threats to the international financial system.

The organisation currently has 40 members, while more than 200 jurisdictions have committed to implementing its recommendations through the FATF Global Network.

India became a member of the FATF in 2010.
