1. National Commission for Minorities organises National Seminar on “Parsis in Modern India
Place : Yashwantrao Chavan Centre, Mumbai
Purpose: To deliberate on cultural preservation, socio-economic status, and demographic concerns of Parsis in India.

Formation ofNational Commission -Minorities
The Union Government set up the National Commission for Minorities (NCM) under the National Commission for Minorities Act, 1992.
Initially five religious communities, viz., Muslims, Christians, Sikhs, Buddhists and Zoroastrians (Parsis) were notified as minority communities by the Union Government.
Further vide notification dated 27th January 2014, Jains were also notified as another minority community.
Constitutional Provision for Separate Domain of Minorities
[Article 29(1)]: right of ‘any section of the citizens’ to ‘conserve’ its ‘distinct
language, script or culture’.
[Article 29(2)]: restriction on denial of admission to any citizen, to any
educational institution maintained or aided by the State, ‘on grounds only of
religion, race, caste, language or any of them’.
[Article 30(1)]: right of all Religious and Linguistic Minorities to establish and
administer educational institutions of their choice
[Article 350 A]: provision for facilities for instruction in mother-tongue at
primary stage.

2. CMRL Has Been Honored With Global Environmental Leadership of the Year 2026
Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL) has been honoured with the Global Environmental Leadership Project of the Year 2026 in the Transportation Sector –Metro Rail Category at the GEEF Global Environmental Excellence Awards 2026.
The award will be presented at the Global Energy Leader’s Summit 2026 on 22nd May 2026 in New Delhi.
The award underscores CMRL’s leadership in integrating environmental considerations across the planning, construction, and operation of the metro rail in Chennai.
From safeguarding sensitive ecosystems through alignment modifications to incorporating green design features in stations and viaducts, CMRL has demonstrated how large-scale infrastructure can advance ecological conservation, climate resilience and fastest canopy recovery in compensatory plantations.
This global honour further reinforces CMRL’s commitment to sustainable mobility and its vision of building a greener, more resilient Chennai.
Highlighted that CMRL is the recipient of the Global Sustainability Award in 2024 marking CMRL’s perseverance towards its sustainability goals.

Delhi Metro is the second oldest metro in India after Kolkata Metro.
Kolkata metro is the only metro rail network that is controlled by the Indian Railways.
All except Kolkata metro are operated by autonomous local authorities
3. Lieutenant General NS Raja Subramani (Retd) appointed as Chief of Defence Staff
The present Chief of Defence Staff General Anil Chauhan will complete his tenure on May 30, 2026.
Lieutenant General NS Raja Subramani is currently Military Adviser, National Security Council Secretariat
Prior to that, he was the Vice Chief of the Army Staff and was General Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Central Command.
The Kargil Review Committee (1999) headed by K. Subrahmanyam first recommended a CDS-like integrated military structure

About Chief of Defence Staff (CDS)
The Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) was created by the Government of India in 2019 to promote greater coordination, jointness, and integration among the Army, Navy, and Air Force, and to provide single-point military advice to the civilian leadership.
The CDS is the highest-ranking military officer in India.
The CDS is a four-star military officer equivalent in rank to the Chief of Army Staff, Chief of Naval Staff, and Chief of Air Staff.
The CDS is appointed by the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet chaired by the Prime Minister.
The CDS ranks 12th in the Indian order of precedence, equivalent to the three service chiefs.
The CDS is not a constitutional office and was created through a Cabinet decision and gazette notification in 2019

The controversy began after the Bharatiya Janata Party secured a decisive victory, winning over 200 seats in the 294-member Assembly.
Meanwhile, Mamata Banerjee alleged that the results did not reflect the people’s mandate and blamed the Election Commission of India for irregularities.

The Constitution of India makes it clear that a government can function only as long as it enjoys the confidence of the legislative assembly.
Under Article 164 of the Constitution of India, ministers hold office “during the pleasure of the Governor.”
In practical terms, this works as follows:
If election results show that the ruling party has lost its majority, the Chief Minister is expected to step down. If they do not, the Governor can intervene.
The Governor may direct the Chief Minister to prove their majority through a floor test in the Assembly, where MLAs formally vote to show support.
If the Chief Minister fails to secure a majority, the Governor can dismiss the government and invite another party or alliance with sufficient numbers to form the new government.
5. Governor Arlekar appointed Mr. Vijay as CM under Article 164(1)
Governor Arlekar appointed Mr. Vijay under Article 164(1), with nine cabinet ministers also joining.
Floor Test Requirement: Mr. Vijay must prove his majority on or before May 13, 2026, per Article 164(2).
Article 164 of Indian Constitution
Appointment: The Governor appoints the Chief Minister and, on their advice, the other Ministers.
Tenure: Ministers hold their office at the "pleasure of the Governor."
Tribal Welfare: Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, Madhya Pradesh, and Odisha must have a dedicated Minister for tribal welfare.
Size Limits: The total number of Ministers must be between 12 and 15% of the total Legislative Assembly members.
Anti-Defection: Any member disqualified under the Tenth Schedule is also barred from being appointed as a Minister.
Collective Responsibility: The Council of Ministers is collectively accountable to the State Legislative Assembly.
Oaths & Salaries: Before taking office, Ministers must take oaths of office and secrecy; their salaries are determined by the State Legislature.
Membership Requirement: A Minister must become a member of the State Legislature within six months or they will lose their position.
