556th GurNanak Dev Jayanthi is celebrated across India and world in 5th November.
About GurNanak Dev:
•Birth: Talwandi Rai Bhoe village near Lahore, in 1459
•He was the first of the 10 Sikh gurus and the founder of Sikhism.
•He established a center at Kartarpur (Dera Baba Nanak on the river Ravi).
•His compositions were included in the Adi Granth, compiled by GurArjan (1563-1606), the fifth Sikh guru.
•'Ik Onkar’: It means 'One God' who dwells in every one of his creations and constitutes the eternal truth.
•Advocated the 'Nirguna' (devotion to and worship of formless divine) form of bhakti.
•Rejected sacrifices, ritual baths, image worship, austerities.
•Set up rules for congregational worship (Sangat) involving collective recitation.
•Death:In 1539 at Kartarpur, Punjab.
