• India has won the Presidency of the International Institute of Administrative Sciences (IIAS) for the 2025-2028 term, a government statement said on Wednesday.

International Institute of Administrative Sciences (IIAS)

• The IIAS is a global federation comprising 31 member countries, 20 national sections, and 15 academic research centres, collaborating on scientific research in public administration. While the IIAS is not a formally affiliated body of the United Nations, it actively engages with the UN’s work in the field of public administration

India has been a member since 1998, represented by the Department of Administrative Reforms and Public Grievances.

• For the upcoming term, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had nominated V. Srinivas, Secretary of the Department of Administrative Reforms and Public Grievances, as India’s candidate in November 2024.

• Four nations — India, South Africa, Austria, and Bahrain — submitted nominations. The election, held on June 3, 2025, saw India and Austria advance to the final round.

• India’s candidacy received widespread support from across the membership, the statement said.

• This is first time in the 100 years history of IIAS that the election to the post of President was held by ballot process (and not by consensus) and it is the first time that India has secured the historic mandate for the Presidency of the IIAS.
