New Appointment:

Pushpendra Pal Singh will be the next General Officer Commanding-in-Chief (GOC-in-C) of Indian Army Western Command.

Headquarters: Chandimandir.

He will assume charge at the end of the month after the retirement of M. K. Katiyar.

Current Position

Currently serving as Vice Chief of the Army Staff (VCOAS) since 31 July 2025.

Belongs to Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh.

Alumnus of La Martiniere College, Lucknow.

Military Career

Commissioned into the 4th Battalion of the Parachute Regiment (Indian Army) on 19 December 1987.

Has held command, staff, and instructional appointments across the Indian Army.

Key Military Operations

He has participated in several major operations:

Operation Pawan – Indian Peace Keeping Force mission in Sri Lanka.

Operation Meghdoot – securing the Siachen Glacier.

Operation Rakshak – counter-insurgency operations in Jammand Kashmir.

Operation Orchid.

Important Command Positions

Commanded a Special Forces Unit in the Kashmir Valley and along the Line of Control.

Commanded an Infantry Brigade and a Mountain Division along the Line of Actual Control.

Served as GOC of 9 Corps in Yol, Himachal Pradesh.
