Why is in news? Delhi: NESTS to organise two-day capacity-building programme for Eklavya Model Residential Schools teachers

National Education Society for Tribal Students (NESTS) will organize two-days’ face-to-face capacity building programme for Eklavya Model Residential Schools (EMRS) teachers to implement Amazon Future Engineer Program (CSR Programme) in collaboration with the Learning Links Foundation (LLF) in Delhi.

Modern Information Technology shall enable early exposure to and bolster the preparedness of students for future careers in STEM education.

Learning Links Foundation (LLF) is a philanthropic organization working for ‘Amazon Future Engineer Program’ that is unique in the area of computational skills training for students and teachers of EMRSs.

Course modules shall include Computer Science Fundamentals, Introduction to Coding, Logical Sequencing, Learning Loops, and Block Programming.

The proposed training workshop for the teachers shall serve as a stepping stone in creating awareness about the potential of Computer Science in students of Eklavya Model Residential Schools as well as access to quality IT education in the schools.

National Education Society for Tribal Students:

National Education Society for Tribal Students (NESTS) is an autonomous organization that was established under the Ministry of Tribal Affairs (MoTA) in 2019.

It was set up at the Central level under society registration act 1860.

It was set up to manage Eklavya Model Residential Schools for tribal students schools.

It is responsible for recommending the syllabi, the school and hostel standards, and the teacher recruitment guidelines.

According to the guidelines issued to states in 2020 by NESTS, each school had been recommended to have a total of 52 staffers.

After NESTS, State Education Societies for Tribal Students (SESTS) were also set up, which would receive the funding from the Ministry and allocate it accordingly.

SESTSs are in charge of implementing teacher recruitment with room for local modifications in each of these areas.

Vission:

Catalysing socio-economic development of the most underprivileged groups in India i.e. the Scheduled Tribes (STs), in a coordinated and a planned manner considering it as an effective instrument for their holistic empowerment.

Mission:

Imparting quality education to ST children by establishment of Eklavya Model Residential Schools in order to enable them to avail high and professional educational courses and to get employment in various sectors.

Ensuring them opportunities at par with Non-ST populations thereby providing impetus to the overall development of tribal population in the country.

Objective:

To provide quality upper primary, secondary and senior secondary level education to ST and PVTG students in tribal dominated areas along with extra-curricular activities for their all-round development.

To manage annual running expenses for support in infrastructure development, provision of facilities, hiring of human resource and information dissemination through website etc for efficient management of EMRS and their expansion.
