In November 2025, the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) partnered with Google India to provide near real-time, authoritative highway information through Google Maps via the API Set(Application Programming Interface) platform.
- This collaboration allows users to access real-time information about public roads, roadside amenities, and travel disruptions across the national highway network.
About the MoU:
- Live Data on Roads: Under the partnership, NHAI has already shared information on wayside amenities such as fuel stations, rest-areas and public conveniences and plans to feed live data on temporary road closures, deviations, and accident-prone zones into Google Maps so that travelers receive visual and voice alerts ahead of time.
- Features for Two-Wheeler Users: The updated Google Maps roll-out in India features “Gemini” AI (Artificial Intelligence) -powered conversational navigation, multi-step voice commands, flyover-voice guidance in nine Indian languages for complex junctions, and customizable “Navatars” for two-wheeler users.
- Digital India Vision: The collaboration is a key component of the Digital India vision, bringing together data analytics, AI and mobility to enhance transparency, convenience and safety on Indian roads.
- India becomes the second market after the United State of America(USA) to receive advanced AI-powered navigation features like Gemini integration and proactive traffic alerts.
