Why is in news? Student Scientist Connect Program Event under the "One Week One Lab" Campaign CSIR-Central Glass and Ceramic Research Institute (CGCRI)

The One Week One lab campaign of the Council of Scientific & Industrial Research (CSIR) will highlight India's global excellence in technology, innovation and Start-ups.

In this campaign, each of CSIR’s 37 constituent laboratories, spread Nationwide, will showcase their legacy, exclusive innovations and technological breakthroughs every successive week.

To showcase and propagate such diversity across society the idea of “One Week, One Lab” was announced, to be a nationwide theme- based campaign to showcase the technological breakthroughs and innovations in the CSIR labs.

During the campaign each CSIR lab shall be organizing week-long events including industry & start-up meet, students connect, society connect, display of technologies, etc.

Purpose:

To identify the needs of regions, industry - develop and provide desired scientific solutions

To develop collaboration with states and industry for deployment and commercialization

To identify the potential industry for the co-development of next-gen technology & products

To create networks of govt-academia-industry for faster delivery and deployment

To motivate youngsters and budding entrepreneurs to create startups.

CSIR:

CSIR was established on 26 September 1942 and was registered as a CSIR Society under the Societies Registration Act, 1860.

The Council of Scientific & Industrial Research (CSIR), known for its cutting edge R&D knowledge base in diverse S&T areas, is a contemporary R&D organization.

CSIR covers a wide spectrum of science and technology – from oceanography, geophysics, chemicals, drugs, genomics, biotechnology and nanotechnology to mining, aeronautics, instrumentation, environmental engineering and information technology.

It provides significant technological intervention in many areas concerning societal efforts, which include environment, health, drinking water, food, housing, energy, farm and non-farm sectors. Further, CSIR’s role in S&T human resource development is noteworthy.

CSIR is ranked 37th among 1587 government institutions worldwide and is the only Indian organization among the top 100 global government institutions, according to the Scimago Institutions Ranking World Report 2021.

CSIR holds the 7th rank in Asia and leads the country at the first position.
