Why is in news? PM to inaugurate PM Kisan Samman Sammelan 2022 on 17 October

Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi will inaugurate a two-day event titled “PM Kisan Samman Sammelan 2022” on 17th October 2022 at Mela Ground, IARI, Pusa, New Delhi.

More than 13 thousand farmers from across the country and around one thousand five hundred Agri Startups will participate in the conference. More than one crore farmers, from various institutions, are also expected to attend the event virtually.

Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samruddhi Kendras: The Prime Minister will also inaugurate six hundred Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samruddhi Kendras.

Under the scheme, the fertilizer retail shops in the country will be converted into Pradan Mantri Kisan Samruddhi Kendras in a phased manner.

The Kendras will cater to a wide variety of needs of the farmers and provide agri-inputs, testing facilities for soil, seeds, fertilizers, and generate awareness among farmers.

More than three lakh 30 thousand retail fertilizer shops are planned to be converted into Pradan Mantri Kisan Samruddhi Kendras.

Bhartiya Jan Urvarak Pariyojana: During the event, Prime Minister will launch Bhartiya Jan Urvarak Pariyojana - One Nation One Fertilizer.

Under the scheme, Prime Minister will launch Bharat Urea Bags, which will help companies market fertilizers under the single brand name Bharat.

The single brand name for UREA, Di-Ammonium Phosphate DAP, Muriate of potash (MOP) and Nitrogen Phosphorus Potassium NPK etc. would be BHARAT UREA, BHARAT DAP, BHARAT MOP and BHARAT NPK etc. respectively for all Fertiliser Companies, State Trading Entities (STEs) and Fertiliser Marketing Entities (FMEs).

This scheme applies to both public & private sector companies.

It will bring about uniformity in fertiliser brands across the country

Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi: The Prime Minister will also release the 12th installment amount of 16 thousand crore rupees under the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi through Direct Benefit Transfer.

Under the scheme, eligible farmer families are provided a benefit of six thousand rupees per year in three equal installments of two thousand rupees each, irrespective of their size of landholding.

It is a central sector scheme.

To supplement the financial needs of the Small and Marginal Farmers in procuring various inputs to ensure proper crop health and appropriate yields, commensurate with the anticipated farm income at the end of each crop cycle.

To protect them from falling in the clutches of moneylenders for meeting their farming expenses.

So far, more than two lakh crore eligible farmer families have received benefits under PM-KISAN.
