The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) has appointed Mahesh Dixit, a 1993-batch IPS officer of the Andhra Pradesh cadre, as the new Director of the Intelligence Burea(IB) for a two-year tenure. 

He will succeed Tapan Kumar Deka, whose tenure as IB Director ends in June 2026.

Before his appointment, Dixit was serving as the Special Director of the Intelligence Bureau, the second-highest position in the organisation.

Mahesh Dixit has extensive experience in internal security, counter-terrorism, intelligence gathering, and operations in Jamm& Kashmir.

He previously headed the Subsidiary Intelligence Burea(SIB) in Srinagar, where he played a significant role in intelligence operations following the abrogation of Article 370.

His appointment comes at a time when India faces evolving challenges such as cross-border terrorism, cyber threats, espionage, and internal security issues.
