Six states—Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, Haryana, Delhi, Rajasthan, and Uttar Pradesh—have agreed to sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for the implementation of the KishaMulti-Purpose Dam Project on the Tons River, a major tributary of the Yamuna River. The decision was taken during a meeting convened by the Ministry of Jal Shakti to resolve long-pending issues related to water sharing and power generation.
The project is expected to enhance water availability, irrigation, hydropower generation, and flood moderation in the Yamuna Basin region, benefiting multiple northern Indian states.
