South Central Railway Launches Next-generation ‘rail Parcel App’

South Central Railway (SCR) has launched a first-of-its-kind digital ‘Rail Parcel App’, aimed at transforming parcel logistics through door-to-door services and real-time digital management. The initiative was inaugurated at Rail Nilayam, Secunderabad by SCR General Manager Sanjay Kumar Srivastava.

What is the Rail Parcel App?

A digital e-marketplace for parcel booking and delivery via Indian Railways trains.

Enables door-to-door pickup and delivery, eliminating traditional queues and paperwork.

Features include online booking, real-time tracking, automated notifications, and secure digital payments.

Currently rolled out as a pilot project across seven major cities including Hyderabad, Vijayawada, Guntur, Rajahmundry, Visakhapatnam, Bengaluru, and Chennai.

Indian Railways Parcel Service (Contextual)

The Indian Railways’ parcel service traditionally allows transport of goods, packages and merchandise between stations across the network.

Parcel offices at major stations facilitate booking and handling, but often require physical visits and paperwork. This new app aims to move the system into a digital era with greater accessibility.

Indian Railways has been adopting digital initiatives such as:

RailOne / SwaRail app — for ticketing, tracking and freight management (super app for passengers and services).

E-payment integration, GPS tracking, and automated notifications for user convenience.

Strategic Freight Goals

Mission 3000 Million Tonnes Cargo Loading by 2030 aims to increase rail freight capacity and competitiveness against road transport, reducing logistics costs and carbon footprint.
