Tata Group, OpenAI announce partnership to build 100 MW data centre

The Tata Group, Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) and OpenAI have announced a major partnership to work together on artificial intelligence (AI).

The goal is to promote AI use in businesses, social sectors, and technology innovation.

Big AI Data Centre in India

As part of the deal, the Tata Group and OpenAI will build India’s first large-scale AI data centre.

This data centre will start with 100 megawatts (MW) of capacity and can later grow to 1,000 MW (1 gigawatt).

It will be used to run advanced AI systems and support new AI technologies in India.

AI Tools for Tata Employees

Thousands of employees in the Tata Group will get access to Enterprise ChatGPT — a business version of ChatGPT designed for work use.

TCS will also use OpenAI’s Codex, which helps in writing and improving software code.

Building AI Solutions Together

OpenAI’s advanced AI systems (called agentic AI) and TCS’s industry knowledge will be used to build industry-specific AI solutions.

These tools can help companies in sectors like manufacturing, services, healthcare, and more.

TCS and OpenAI will work together to help both Indian and global companies use AI effectively.

They will support businesses in adopting, integrating, and scaling AI tools based on their needs.

Focus on Training and Social Impact

The partnership includes programs to train young people in AI skills.
