The Prime Minister released a commemorative stamp and coin on the occasion of 150 years of Vante Mataram song.

About Vante Mataram:

Origin & Author: Vande Mataram was written by Bankim Chandra Chattopadhyay in 1870s and later included in his famous novel ‘Anandamath’ (1882).

Language & Meaning: Written originally in Sanskrit and Bengali, the song translates to “I bow to thee, Mother”, paying tribute to Mother India as a divine mother figure.

Music & Rendition: The song was first sung at the session of the Indian National Congress by Rabindranath Tagore on November 7 1896 . It has since been composed by several noted musicians in classical and modern forms.

Role in Freedom Struggle: The song became a national cry for freedom during India’s independence movement, inspiring revolutionaries and freedom fighters across the country.

Adoption Status: The first two stanzas of Vande Mataram were adopted as the National Song of India on 24 January 1950, distinct from the National Anthem (Jana Gana Mana).

Constitutional Recognition: The Constitution of India gives Vande Mataram equal respect as the National Song, symbolizing patriotism, unity, and cultural heritage.
