Sky Map is a Ukrainian anti-drone system, but it is not a weapon itself.
It is a command-and-control software platform that helps detect and stop drone attacks.
How does it work?
It collects data from multiple sources:
Acoustic sensors (microphones)
Radars
Cameras and AI systems
These sensors detect the sound and movement of incoming drones
The system then creates a real-time map of threats
It guides air defence systems or interceptor drones to destroy them
Key Features:
Uses over 10,000 sensors across Ukraine to detect drones
Can identify low-cost, hard-to-detect drones
Works like a dashboard/map showing live enemy drone positions
Coordinates quick response to attacks
Who developed it?
Developed by a Ukrainian company Sky Fortress (2022)
Supported by Ukraine’s military innovation system
Why is it important?
Modern wars use large numbers of cheap drones, which are hard to stop
Traditional air defence systems are expensive and limited
Sky Map provides a low-cost, smart, and scalable solution
Use in the Gulf:
The United States has deployed Sky Map at bases in the Gulf (like Saudi Arabia)
Purpose: protect military bases from drone attacks (especially from Iran-linked threats)
Background:
This system is part of counter-drone warfare (C-UAS)
Instead of just missiles, modern defence uses:
Sensors + AI + software
Interceptor drones
In Short:
Sky Map is a smart software system that detects, tracks, and helps destroy enemy drones using sensors, AI, and coordinated defence responses.
