Why is in news? Union Minister Piyush Goyal addresses 21st World Congress of Accountants in Mumbai

The World Congress of Accountants (WCOA) has been held under the auspices of the International Federation of Accountants (IFAC), the worldwide organization for the accountancy profession.

It is held for every five years since 1952 and every four years since 2002.

The host organization rotates every four years to a different national professional accounting organization, chosen by an IFAC selection team.

The Institute of Chartered Accountant of India (ICAI) is hosting the 21st World Congress of Accountants 2022(WCOA) at the Jio World Centre, Mumbai, from November 18-21, 2022 in a Hybrid mode.

WCOA 2022 is being held in hybrid mode for the first time ever in the Congress's history.

About 6000 top accountants from 130 countries will participate in the programme directly and over 10000 will join virtually.

The theme of the event would be `Building Trust Enabling Sustainability’.

International Federation of Accountants:

IFAC, founded in 1977, is the global organization for the accountancy profession dedicated to serving the public interest by strengthening the profession and contributing to the development of strong international economies.

IFAC is comprised of 180 members and associates in 135 countries and jurisdictions, representing more than 3 million accountants in public practice, education, government service, industry, and commerce.

Institute of Chartered Accountant of India:

The Institute of Chartered Accountants of India is a statutory body established under the Chartered Accountants Act, 1949 on 1st July, 1949 for regulating the profession of Chartered Accountancy in the country.

The Institute, functions under the administrative control of the Ministry of Corporate Affairs, Government of India.

The ICAI is one of the largest professional bodies of Chartered Accountants in the World, with a strong tradition of service to the Indian economy in public interest.
