The Tamil Nadu government has tweaked the Dr. Muthulakshmi Reddy Maternity Benefit Scheme to ensure that any delay on the part of the Union government in the disbursal of funds does not affect its implementation.

From now on, the scheme will be implemented in three installments as against five.

The Maternity Benefit Scheme in Tamilnadu was launched in the year 1987 with the to reduce IMR and MMR.

Benefit under combined the Scheme
Rs. 18000
The State’s share is ₹15,000 and the Union government’s ₹3,000.

In Tamil Nadu, the Health Department is running the scheme
At the Union level , Women and Child Development Ministry.
Payment of benefit in 3 Installments
1₹4,000 in the fourth month of pregnancy
2₹4,000 after delivery
3₹6,000 four months after delivery
