India is one of the Contracting Parties to Ramsar Convention, signed in Ramsar, Iran, in 1971. India signed it on 1st Feb 1982.
The 11 new sites include:4 sites in Tamil Nadu, 3 in Odisha, 2 in Jamm& Kashmir and 1 each in Madhya Pradesh and Maharashtra.
Tamil Nadhas maximum no. of Ramsar sites (14 nos), followed by UP which has 10 nos. of Ramsar sites
Odisha: Tampara Lake, Hirakud Reservoir, Ansupa Lake,
Madhya Pradesh: Yashwant Sagar
Tamil Nadu: Chitrangudi Bird Sanctuary, Suchindram Theroor Wetland Complex, Vaduvur Bird Sanctuary, Kanjirankulam Bird Sanctuary
Maharashtra: Thane Creek
Jammand Kashmir: Hygam Wetland Conservation Reserve, Shallbugh Wetland Conservation Reserve
