The Gujarat government signed a Letter of Intent (LoI) with Starlink, a satellite internet company owned by Elon Musk’s SpaceX.
The agreement aims to strengthen digital infrastructure across Gujarat.
It will help bring high-speed satellite internet to areas where regular network coverage is poor or unavailable.
Where Connectivity Will Be Improved
Remote, tribal, and border areas will get better internet access.
Key government facilities like Common Service Centres (CSCs) and e-Governance offices will be connected.
Government schools and Primary Health Centres (PHCs) will also benefit from improved internet.
Other Services That Will Improve
Tele-medicine services can reach more people with better internet.
Disaster management centres, ports, and wildlife areas will be connected for safety and monitoring.
Police outposts, industrial parks, wildlife monitoring and maritime/port operations will get stronger connectivity.
Pilot Projects and Implementation
The pact includes pilot projects to test satellite internet in these areas.
Why This Is Important
The move supports Gujarat’s Digital Connectivity Mission and India’s Digital India vision.
It will help bridge the digital divide, giving people in hard-to-reach areas access to education, healthcare, government services, and economic opportunities.
