India is set to host the AI Impact Summit 2026 from 16–20 February 2026 at Bharat Mandapam, New Delhi, with a central focus on the democratisation of artificial intelligence (AI) — ensuring equitable access, affordability, and inclusive use of AI technologies globally. It is being organised under the IndiaAI Mission led by the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY).

Key Themes and Objectives

Democratisation of AI: The summit aims to promote fair and affordable access to foundational AI resources such as compute, data, and infrastructure, enabling inclusive innovation and sustainable development across nations.

Seven Thematic Chakras: Discussions are structured around seven interconnected focus areas — Human Capital, Inclusion for Social Empowerment, Safe and Trusted AI, Science, Resilience & Innovation, Democratising AI Resources, and AI for Economic & Social Good. These guide practical policies and collaborative action plans.

Ethical and Inclusive AI: The summit emphasises building AI systems that are responsible, transparent, and inclusive by design, addressing diversity in societies and closing global technology gaps.

Global Participation and Significance

The summit is recognised as a major global AI event — one of the largest hosted in the Global South — with participation expected from 15–20 heads of government, over 50 international ministers, and more than 100 global and Indian technology leaders.

It provides a platform to showcase India’s AI capabilities, deliberate on policy frameworks, and encourage cooperation between governments, industry, academia, and civil society on AI adoption and governance.

The event sets India as a key player in shaping global AI discourse, especially in promoting impact-focused AI governance that balances innovation with societal benefits.

What is AI Democratisation?

AI democratisation refers to the effort to make AI technologies accessible and usable by all, irrespective of socioeconomic status, geography, or institutional capacity. It includes:

Open and affordable access to AI infrastructure and tools.

Capacity building through education, skills training, and research opportunities.

Collaborative frameworks ensuring that AI benefits are shared widely rather than concentrated in a few developed economies.
