India has been conferred the prestigious title of ‘Country of the Year’ at BIOFACH 2026, the world’s leading international trade fair for organic products, held from 10 to 13 February 2026 in Nuremberg, Germany. This recognition marks India’s return to the global spotlight in organic farming after 14 years and highlights its growing role as a major player in the global organic agricultural market.

The Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA), under the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, is organising India’s participation. The India Pavilion spans over 1,074 square metres and features 67 co-exhibitors from more than 20 States and Union Territories, including FPOs (Farmer Producer Organisations), exporters, and state government bodies. The pavilion showcases a wide range of organic products like rice, spices, oilseeds, pulses, herbs, cashew, ginger, turmeric, and essential oils.

The designation as Country of the Year enhances India’s visibility on the global stage, opens business-to-business (B2B) opportunities, and reinforces the country’s position as a supplier of high-quality, certified organic products. It also coincides with the recent EU-India Free Trade Agreement (FTA) negotiations, paving the way for expanded access to European markets for Indian organic exports.
