Navy deploys INS Sahyadri for Malabar Exercise
About INS Sahyadri:
Type & Class: INS Sahyadri (F49) is a Shivalik-class stealth multi-role frigate of the Indian Navy, built indigenously by Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders Limited (MDL), Mumbai.
Commissioning: It was commissioned in 2012 and is part of the Eastern Naval Command headquartered at Visakhapatnam.
Features: Equipped with stealth technology, advanced surface-to-air and surface-to-surface missiles, torpedoes, and anti-submarine warfare systems.
About Malabar Exercise:
Nature & Participants: Malabar is a multilateral naval exercise initially between India and the USA (1992), later including Japan (2015) and Australia (2020), forming the Quad framework.
Objective: To enhance maritime security, interoperability, tactical coordination, and joint naval capabilities in the Indo-Pacific region.
Scope & Activities: Includes anti-submarine warfare, air defence, maritime interdiction, and search & rescue operations, conducted both at sea and shore.
Significance: Demonstrates strategic partnership, promotes freedom of navigation, and counters regional maritime threats, particularly in the Indo-Pacific.
