Karnataka is planning to establish a permanent water commission comprising technical expertson the lines of the Central Water Commission, to recommend to the State government measures on water security and on matters of water disputes.
About Central Water Commission:
Established in 1945, Central Water Commission (CWC) works as an advisory body to theGovernment of India on matters relating to water resources development and management.
Headquarter of CWC: New Delhi
It is an attached office of the Ministry of Jal Shakti (Department of Water Resources, River Development & Ganga Rejuvenation).
CWC deals with only surface water. Central Groundwater Board (CGWB) deals with groundwater.
The work of the Commission is divided among 3 wings namely, Designs and Research (D&R) Wing, River Management (RM) Wing and Water Planning and Projects (WP&P) Wing.
