The tri-services exercise Trishul will commence on Monday, with the Indian Navy leading the large-scale joint drills alongside the Indian Army and the Indian Air Force across the creek and desert sectors of Rajasthan and Gujarat, extending into the northern Arabian Sea.
About Exercise Trishul:
Exercise Trishul is a major tri-services (Army, Navy, and Air Force) military exercise conducted by India along its western frontier to test and demonstrate joint operational capabilities across multiple domains — land, air, sea, cyber, and space.
It is organised by the Ministry of Defence, Government of India.
The exercise is being held in Rajasthan and Gujarat, with a specific focus on Sir Creek and the Rann of Kutch, extending to the Saurashtra coast for amphibious and naval drills.
Over 20,000 troops, Rafale and Sukhoi-30MKI fighters, main battle tanks, howitzers, and S-400 air defence systems deployed. Sub-exercises like ‘Trinetra’ for electronic warfare and counter-drone operations; ‘Mahagujraj’ for integrated air operations.
About Sir Creek
It is a 96-kilometre tidal waterway in the marshlands of the Rann of Kutch, Gujarat, forming the boundary between India’s Kutch region and Pakistan’s Sindh province, and opening into the Arabian Sea
Historically known as Ban Ganga, it was renamed “Sir Creek” during the colonial period after a British official.
Pakistan claims the entire Sir Creek under a 1914 resolution. However, India argues that the same resolution also invoked the thalweg principle, which sets the boundary along the middle of the navigable channel.
