Why is in news? Union Health Minister Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya participates in Cyclathon organised by National Board of Examination in Medical Sciences
Union Minister of Health & Family Welfare participated in a Cyclathon organized by National Board of Examination in Medical Sciences (NBEMS), aimed to encourage health seeking behaviour in the masses through physical activities.
The cycle rally with the theme “SAVE EARTH, SAVE LIFE”.
The cycle can substantially help to address environment issues as it is a no-pollution vehicle. Many developed countries are using cycles on a large scale.
While in India it is known as a poor-man’s vehicle, it should be our aim to transform this in a rich man’s vehicle. It needs to be made a “passion” from “fashion”. Let us make the cycling a part of our life for a Green Earth and health Earth.
Highlighting the significance of cycling and physical activities, the minister said “we need to inculcate exercise in our lives for physical as well as mental benefits. Physical activities are known to keep away many of the non-communicable and life-style diseases.” He complimented NBEMS for their “Go-Green” drive and proactive role towards health promotion and environment protection.
National Board of Examination in Medical Sciences:
The National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences (NBEMS) was established in 1975.
Objective: Improving the quality of the Medical Education by establishing high and uniform standards of postgraduate examinations in modern medicine on an all-India basis and utilizing existing infrastructure for capacity building.
NBEMS at present conducts postgraduate and postdoctoral examinations in approved specialties leading to the award of Diplomate of National Board (DNB) and Doctorate of National Board (DrNB) respectively.
The Examinations conducted by NBEMS provide a common standard and mechanism of evaluation of minimum level of attainment of the knowledge and competencies of medical specialties.
Moreover, intra country and international comparisons are facilitated with the availability of common evaluation mechanism.
The very basis of creation of NBEMS was to address the issue of a uniform standard of medical education across the country.
As on date the NBEMS has successfully established a robust mechanism of uniform accreditation, uniform education and uniform examination for Post Graduate and Postdoctoral Medical Disciplines in the country which has been internationally acclaimed.
