Why is in news? Technotex 2023 to be held in Mumbai from 22nd to 24th February, 2023
India's premier show on Technical Textiles - ‘Technotex 2023’ will be held in Mumbai from 22nd to 24th February 2023.
The largest event of technical textile industry in India is focused on providing its attendees access and networking opportunities to meet top CEOs, manufacturers, industry peers, purchase managers and suppliers from India and around the globe.
The event is being organized by the Ministry of Textiles in collaboration with Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce Industry, under National Technical Textiles Mission (NTTM).
The Ministry exhorted the industry representatives to tap the potential of the growing global technical textile market.
The robust global market is waiting for the industry as both domestic consumption and export are expected to grow rapidly.
It is very important that we build a strong connect with the global industry, attract domestic and global investments as well as project India’s strengths, initiatives and facilities.
National Technical Textiles Mission:
Technical textiles are defined as textile materials and products manufactured primarily for their technical performance and functional properties rather than aesthetic and decorative characteristics.
Depending upon their application areas, Technical Textiles products are divided into 12 broad categories: Agrotech, Buildtech, Clothtech, Geotech, Hometech, Indutech, Mobiltech, Meditech, Protech, Sportstech, Oekotech, Packtech.
With a view to position the country as a global leader in Technical Textiles, National Technical Textiles Mission (NTTM) has been approved with a four-year implementation period from FY 2020-21 to 2023-24.
The Mission will have four components: Research, Innovation and Development; Promotion and Market Development; Export Promotion; Education, Training, Skill Development.
Mission Objectives:
Improve the Penetration level of technical textiles in the country and upgrade the skills sets of the workforce.
Promote usage of technical textiles in various flagship mission, programmes including strategic sectors in India.
Develop indigenous machineries and process equipment for technical textiles to promote "Make in India" and enable competitiveness of the industry.
Promotion of innovation amongst young engineering/ technology/ science standards and graduates; along with creation of innovation and incubation centres and promotion of "start-ups" and "ventures".
