In November 2025, Chief Minister(CM) of Odisha MohanCharanMajhiinauguratedIndia’s firstend-to-end Silicon Carbide (SiC) semiconductorat Info Valley, Bhubaneswar,Odisha, marking a major step toward the nation’s self-reliance in semiconductor manufacturing.
- The project has been approved under the India Semiconductor Mission(ISM),Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology(MeitY).
About theSiCSemSemiconductor Project – Odisha:
Project Overview:The project, implemented bySiCSemPrivate Limited, a subsidiary of Archean Chemical Industries Limited, involves the establishment of an Assembly, Testing, Marking, and Packaging (ATMP) and manufacturing facility for SiC-based compound semiconductors.
Collaboration:The facility will be built by SiCSem Private Limited in collaboration with UK-based Clas -SiC Wafer Fab Ltd, marking a major milestone in India’s semiconductor and power-electronics ambitions
Total investment:Rs.2,067 crore; land allotted by Industrial Development Corporation of Odisha (IDCO) (23 acres).
Production Capacity:The facility will have an annual capacity of 60,000 SiC wafers and 96 million packaged units, and is expected to become operational by2027–28.
Applications:The facility’s SiC-based semiconductors will be used across Electric Vehicles (EVs), defence and missile systems, railways, solar inverters, fast chargers, smart grids, and support data centres, industrial automation, and consumer appliances.
