Context: The annual Flamingo Festival (January 10–11, 2026) took place at NelapattBird Sanctuary and Pulicat Lake in Andhra Pradesh.
- Significance: It celebrates the arrival of Greater Flamingos and thousands of other migratory birds (Pelicans, Storks, Herons) from Siberia and Northern Asia.
- Ecological Hub: Nelapattis one of the most important breeding sites for the Spot-billed Pelican in South Asia.
- Objective: The festival combines eco-tourism with environmental awareness, involving over 6,000 students this year to foster conservation of the brackish water ecosystem.
